Orcas Island's unique misty, sunny climate produces the most sturdy,
fragrant lavender in the world. We are a small grower, tending some 80
lavender plants, dedicated to making beautiful wreaths, wands, wall pots,
sachets, and "sniff bags" for ceremonial occasions. We are located at
Lavender Hill on the lower slopes of Mount Constitution.
Our lavender farming started in 2003, when we planted about 40 plants of
several kinds. After for a couple of years, we fell in love with the
sturdy cultivar, Grosso, perfect for drying as well as for wands, wall
pots, and wreaths. Since then, we have added about 40 more plants,
15 of them this fall.
We started weaving wands as a hobby--useful side activity to playing
Scrabble--and it took us nearly four years to develop the professional
expertise that allows us to offer these to you with confidence.
Meanwhile, from weaving and teaching others to weave, we became excited
about collecting baskets, which we now are incorporating into our Lavender
Hill business as gift baskets full of regional foods and, of course,
lavender.
Although the wreaths are summer-seasonal, we dry our own lavender, so the
bags, sachets are available all year; wands and wall pots are available
until the supply runs out. We also incorporate these, along with
excellent regional wines, cheeses, and other foods, into beautiful gift
baskets to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other special times. We
deliver these baskets anywhere on Orcas.
