Welcome to my website!
Lavender, the genus Lavandula, comprises 39 species of flowering plants including annuals, herbaceous plants, and shrubs. In addition, there are some 500 cultivars that plant breeders have created over centuries. We mainly grow one of these hybrids — L. angustifolia Grosso — because its oils are so fragrant, its stems so hardy and weavable.
Today, aromatherapists use lavender to calm and balance strong emotions such as frustration, irritability, nervous anxiety, panic, hysteria and insomnia, and to cleanse and soothe the heart, which serves to release anger, the emotion which so often causes severe depression. The plant is said to heal and release discord in people’s physical, emotional, and spiritual lives. Jan loves weaving the stems, making sachets and wreaths because the process always increases her feelings of peace and well-being. In addition to these lofty goals, lavender serves practical purposes: to repel moths (see Sachets), to rid cars, trucks and homes of dog or other odors, and to relieve sore muscles and backs.
